An organization well-known for spotting technical innovation has announced the winners of its 2012 Best of New York Awards - and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has picked up honors in three of its 11 categories.
The Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government, presented the awards at the Government Technology Conference East held in Albany this week.
The Tax Department was honored with these awards:
- Demonstrated Leadership in Management of Information Technology, Jim Lieb, Director, Architecture and Web Solutions - for cutting-edge improvements across the agency, enhancing system usability, security, privacy, and accessibility.
- Best Application Serving the Public, Online Services Framework and Portal - a stand-out approach to delivering services more efficiently to the public.
- Green IT Award, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure - demonstrating exceptional results that contribute to the conservation of energy.
"These awards drive home the point that the Tax Department is continuously incorporating new technologies to improve service for all taxpayers," said Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Thomas H. Mattox. "We applaud our winners for their achievements - for responding to the challenge - and we thank the Center for recognizing our extraordinary technical advancements."
