Online Services will be down for improvements from 5 p.m. on December 4 until 10 a.m. on December 8.

During this timeframe, you will be unable to create, log in to, or complete any transactions in your Online Services account.

If you must file during this timeframe, you may file a paper form. If you must pay a bill, use our Quick Pay application, which does not require you to log in. If you received an income request letter (Form RP-5300-WSC), use our STAR Income Worksheet tool.

To learn about the upcoming improvements and stay up to date, see December 2025 changes to Online Services and subscribe to receive Online Services emails.

Direct File

The IRS has discontinued the Direct File program. Direct File is no longer an option for filing your New York State personal income tax return.

For other ways to electronically file your New York State personal income tax return—including free options—see E-file options for personal income tax.

Need a copy of your 2024 return?

If you used Direct File to file your 2024 New York State person income tax return, complete and submit Form DTF-505, Authorization for Release of Photocopies of Tax Returns and/or Tax Information, to obtain a copy. See Get a copy of my return for more details.

Need to amend your 2024 return?

You cannot use Direct File to file an amended return. If you need to change the 2024 return you filed using Direct File, you must file a paper Form IT-201-X, Amended Resident Income Tax Return.

If you did not use Direct File to complete your 2024 return, you may be able to e-file your amended return. For more information, see Change or amend a filed return.

Need additional help filing your taxes?
