The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance today reminded taxpayers to take advantage of convenient options to pay outstanding tax bills. Information about payment methods are available on the Tax Department website, www.tax.ny.gov (search: Pay).

“We want to make it as easy as possible for taxpayers to pay what they owe and meet their tax obligations,” said New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Acting Commissioner Amanda Hiller. “Many payment options are available on the Tax Department’s website.”

Payment Options

If taxpayers have an unpaid tax bill, they should pay it as soon as possible to avoid accruing additional penalties and interest.

The fastest and easiest way to pay a tax bill is to use a Tax Department Online Services account to make bill payments from a bank account for free or by credit card for a fee. Using an Online Services account, taxpayers can also respond to bills and notices, update their information, and handle other tax-related tasks. Visit www.tax.ny.gov, (search: Online Services) to create an account or log in to an existing account.

A taxpayer who can't pay their tax bill in full can request an Installment Payment Agreement. An Installment Payment Agreement enables qualifying taxpayers to make monthly payments toward an unpaid tax balance. Installment Payment Agreements may be requested through an Online Services account with the New York State Tax Department.

Taxpayers who don’t have an Online Services account can pay directly from their bank account for free using Quick Pay (for individuals only, not businesses).

Other payment options and resources are available on the Tax Department’s Make a payment webpage.
