Volume 1 - Opinions of Counsel SBEA No. 36
United States Government (property of Economic Development Administration) - Real Property Tax Law, § 400:
Real property owned by the Economic Development Administration, an agency of the United States Government, is exempt from real property taxation.
Our opinion has been requested as to whether real property purchased by the Economic Development Administration, an agency of the United States Government, is exempt from taxation.
Real property owned by agencies of the United States Government are immune from taxation (U.S. v. Schwartz, 278 F.Supp. 328 (S.D.N.Y. 1968); Real Property Tax Law, section 400). Thus the property of the EDA is not taxable.
