10/15/2019 Assessment Community Weekly
2020-2021 base Enhanced STAR exemption amount
The law requires us to adjust the base Enhanced STAR exemption amount annually to account for inflation. For the 2020-2021 school year, the base amount will increase to $69,800. We will use that amount to calculate municipal STAR exemption amounts next year.
Extended call center hours for homeowners with questions about the STAR credit
Our STAR call center—518-457-2036—will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Tip of the week for new assessors and directors: Get to know our web content and bookmark key pages
By now, we hope you’ve visited our Welcome webpage and taken the steps to get access to the Online Assessment Community.
If you’ve gone beyond those webpages to explore our website, you know the property tax content is divided into two sections: content for property owners (including STAR), and content for local government officials – you! Since property owners may ask you questions about the information they find on our website, we encourage you to be familiar with both sections.
For the main assessor and county director webpage, bookmark Property tax and assessment administration, which is found under the Government and Researchers tab on our top menu. The links on that webpage and in the left-hand menu will take you to the key sections of our website to do your job.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, try the Search tax box on the upper-right of each of our webpages. By selecting the magnifying glass, you can narrow your search to:
- property tax content only,
- ORPTS Opinions of Counsel, or
- Assessor Manuals.
Have questions about our website? Call the Assessor/Director Hotline at the number below. Please don’t share that number with property owners or the media. By keeping the line dedicated only to you and your staff, we can continue to provide you with prompt service.
