For localities that opted into the provisions of RPTL 925-b
Note: We shared a similar message with our email lists of municipal tax receivers, treasurers, clerks, and school officials late last week.
RPTL 925-b provides taxing jurisdictions other than counties with the option to extend the property tax payment due date by five days for seniors receiving any of the following:
- Senior citizens exemption (467)
- Enhanced STAR exemption
- Enhanced STAR credit
While assessors can provide lists of homeowners receiving the senior citizens and Enhanced STAR exemptions, they may not have a complete list of Enhanced STAR credit recipients at this time.
If a taxing jurisdiction has opted into this provision, the assessor or tax collecting officer can request a list of the seniors receiving the Enhanced STAR credit by sending an email to real.property@tax.ny.gov. Please include RPTL 925-B Request in the subject line so we can route it efficiently.
Where a taxing jurisdiction has opted into this provision, the assessor is authorized to share the list of Enhanced STAR credit recipients with the tax collecting officer.

With so much happening, it’s easy to miss an announcement here or there. Below are some highlights from recent weeks.
- Basic Training Extension. For those who have yet to complete basic certification, the deadline is extended an additional year. For example, if your original deadline to complete basic certification was September 1, 2020, you now have until September 1, 2021.
- New good cause form. To streamline the process for a senior to request an Enhanced STAR good cause deadline extension Form RP-425-GC and instructions are now available.
- New online legal q and a’s. Legal Property Tax Questions – Asked and Answered replaces the former Recently Asked Legal Questions webpage. It includes the questions and answers from that page, as well as four new questions. We will keep you informed as we add new q and a’s. If you have a legal question, submit it to your municipal attorney or your ORPTS Customer Service Liaison.
- Updated STAR exemption removal and renunciation webpage. The page formerly known as STAR exemption removal and renunciation is now Giving up a STAR exemption. We’ve added information for homeowners switching to the STAR credit from the STAR exemption.
