07/06/2021 Assessment Community Weekly
We hope you had a great Fourth weekend!
Deadline to request advisory appraisals is approaching
If you’re conducting a reassessment, and you expect to request a utility advisory appraisal, the deadline to submit Form RP-7021, Utility Advisory Appraisal Request, is 270 days prior to your tentative roll date (by August 1 for localities using the standard assessment calendar). Please include a request for each year of a reassessment cycle.
Have you had issues accessing the Online Assessment Community?
We understand that some of you have received security warnings when accessing the Online Assessment Community or other pages on our website. As we migrate to a new platform for our secure website, we expect that the messages will stop. In the meantime, we assure you that our website is secure. The security messages should give you the ability to bypass the message. If you’re using Chrome, select Advanced and then select Proceed to www2.nystax.gov (unsafe). If you are using Internet Explorer, expand the More information link and then select Go on to the webpage. Please note that Chrome is the preferred browser for using the secure site.
F5 errors. Separately, some of you have received “F5” error messages when accessing the Online Assessment Community. Typically, this is easily resolved by closing all of your browser windows and opening a new browser window. If that doesn’t work, try clearing your browser history and cookies, before closing and opening a new browser window.
Another updated handout
The one-page handout, Assessments vs. taxes: What’s the difference?, has a fresh new look.
Assessors in the midst of a reassessment find this handout particularly helpful. You can print it in color or black and white for your office.
ICYMI: We’ve also recently updated the handouts for the seniors and veterans’ exemptions. Here are the links:
For a full list of handouts, see Property tax publications.
Reminder: When properties sell
After a property sells, don’t forget to:
- transmit the sale and any changes to ORPTS (see Sales usability criteria),
- update your roll to reflect the sale inventory, and
- update the IVP record to indicate the property was sold.
New judicial case
We’ve added Bayview Loan Servicing, LLC v City of Middletown to new Judicial cases.
