07/15/2024 Assessment Community Weekly

Review your sales reports

Now that most of you have finalized your rolls, this is a great time to begin reviewing your sales reports in the Online Assessment Community. The deadline to transmit sales corrections is Friday, August 30. Your timely review is very important because we’ll use the sales data to begin the process of calculating 2025 equalization rates and RARs.

For more information, see Sales usability criteria.

On the arms-length report, there is a column which indicates whether the sale is COD/RAR usable. If you find a mistake or need to correct a sale, follow these instructions:

  • RPS users: within your RPS file, make the correction and then re-transmit it by going to Standard Reports > Sales > Sales Transmittal Report. Please email the RPS035 to saleint@tax.ny.gov. The ORPTS sales database and online sales reports will be updated with the corrections.
  • If you submit paper reports, use Form RP-5217 ACR, Sale Correction Form. Email the completed forms to saleint@tax.ny.gov or mail them to:

Coming soon: RPSV4 update related to the Judicial Security Act

RPSV4 users, watch your email this week for an update to RPSV4 designed to help you comply with the Judicial Security Act. As you may be aware, the act gives judges the option to have their address and other information protected from public disclosure. For more information on the act, consult with your municipal attorney.

STAR letter going out to homeowners this week

We are continuing to mail income worksheets to STAR credit recipients for whom we need additional income information to determine their eligibility. Within 30 days of the date on their letter, they should provide their income using one of the following methods:

  • Homeowner Benefit Portal
  • Online income worksheet
  • Paper income worksheet included in the letter

Sample letter and income worksheet

If you’re contacted by a homeowner about the letter, direct them to the instructions and telephone number on the letter (518-457-2036).

Start planning your public education campaigns

If you’re doing a reassessment for 2025, it’s not too early to start planning the various ways you’ll help your citizens to understand—and even appreciate—your efforts.

We recommend that you work closely with your ORPTS customer service team to plan and implement your public education campaign. To get started, review our Educating the public webpage.
