Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE)
The IRS offers two free basic tax return preparation programs to qualified individuals.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
VITA helps people prepare their own tax returns—for free! VITA volunteers help:
- people who meet income requirements set by each VITA location in New York State
- persons with disabilities
- taxpayers with limited proficiency in English
Note: Income limits vary at different VITA locations. Check with the location nearest you to confirm.
Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE)
TCE offers free tax help to taxpayers specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors.
