RP-5311-OWS or RWS: We need more information to confirm your eligibility for the Enhanced STAR exemption

If you received Form RP-5311-OWS or Form RP-5311-RWS, we are not able to confirm that you meet the income requirements based on the information we have on file.

Eligibility for an Enhanced STAR exemption is based on income from the tax year two years prior. See STAR eligibility.

What to do next

Provide your income from two years prior to verify your eligibility for the Enhanced STAR program.

If you do not respond within 45 days of the date of this letter, we will send you a letter denying the STAR exemption.

Before you begin, gather the following information:

  • names and Social Security numbers for all owners of the property and their spouses
  • federal or state income tax returns for all owners from two years prior
  • the property key listed on the letter we sent you

If any owners or spouses were not required to file an income tax return, you will need the following additional information for those property owners:

  • total wages, salaries, and tips
  • taxable interest income and dividends
  • unemployment compensation
  • total pensions and annuities
  • Social Security benefits
  • taxable amount of total distributions from IRAs (individual retirement accounts and individual retirement annuities)
  • other income
