Real Property System Online

Coming Fall 2025—the Real Property System Online (RPS Online), New York State’s first Web-based system for assessment administration.

For more than forty years, the Office of Real Property Tax Services (ORPTS) has provided localities across New York State with low-cost software for nearly all aspects of local assessment administration. Today, the Tax Department and the Office of Information Technology Services are developing a new Web-based suite of assessment administration tools: RPS Online.

RPS Online will replace the current version, RPSV4, which is used by 959 of the state’s 995 cities and towns.

How RPS Online will work

RPS Online will be a Web-based system. This means:

  • you’ll never need to install software updates—we’ll install them centrally for all users
  • you’ll have access to RPS Online from any device connected to the Internet, not only a Windows-based desktop
  • we'll regularly back up your assessment data, so you don't have to

See RPS Online system enhancements, for a detailed list of what you can expect in RPS Online.

What you can do in RPS Online

We are designing RPS Online to meet changing technology and user needs, while improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness for local and state users.

When it launches in the fall of 2025, RPS Online will provide the following:

  • an administration tool to govern security and user permissions
  • advanced search functionality
  • specified batch processing, including assessment updates, exemption updates, next-year data processing, and sales imports
  • alignment with Real Property Tax Law requirements
  • valuation tools for mass appraisal and individual parcels
  • ability to generate custom reports and letters
  • a process to transmit rolls, assessor reports, and sales to ORPTS
  • online help documentation

Nothing can replace your voice

As we develop RPS Online to replace the functionality of RPSV4, we are collaborating with you and your assessment community colleagues to identify improvement opportunities. If you’ve already responded to our surveys or shared your thoughts with us—thank you! There are more surveys on the way. Your feedback is vital to the success of RPS Online. We’ll refer to your feedback throughout the development process and incorporate your ideas when possible.

If you haven’t yet shared your thoughts, or if you want to share more, email us. We’re using your feedback to expand our frequently asked questions
